Our Story

Why we started Beyond China Guide.

Independent travel in China can be deeply rewarding, but route choices, booking systems, payments, local apps, and the language gap often make preparation more complicated than expected. We created Beyond China Guide to give travelers clearer plans, practical tools, and useful local context.

Our perspective combines Mia's travel experience across China and abroad, Cherry's long-term experience living in multiple Chinese cities, and the research and planning skills we use in China's internet industry. We turn that knowledge into realistic routes and straightforward guidance for independent travelers.

Co-Founder

Mia

Mia is a business analyst in China's internet industry, based in Beijing, with an academic background in finance and business. She has traveled internationally in Turkey, Italy, and Japan, as well as across many cities in China.

Her experience as both a traveler and an analyst shapes how she approaches trip planning: research thoroughly, compare options systematically, and turn complex information into clear, practical decisions. She values realistic pacing, sensible routes, and enough room for spontaneity.

Cherry

Cherry lives in Beijing and has lived in multiple Chinese cities for more than three months each, in addition to traveling widely across the country. She also studied in Hong Kong and holds a master's degree. She spent 40 days living in India, giving her additional firsthand experience of everyday life abroad.

Living in different places for extended periods has given her a closer understanding of local transport, neighborhoods, food, daily routines, and the practical differences between Chinese cities. Her work in China's internet industry also helps her research platforms and translate complicated systems into practical steps.
